1st Roe v Wade — Then IVF — Next is Birth Control

The idea of destroying Roe v Wade was just the first step in controlling women. The Supreme Court knew that handing the abortion decisions to the states would open the doors for all kinds of additional actions against women’s bodily autonomy; and the states eagerly embraced it all. States like Texas created the harshest laws, even punishing women and those that helped to travel for an abortion as well as those women that suffered miscarriages. While women suffered in agony, often bleeding to the point of near death, men in these states stood their ground. But their draconian misogynistic plans don’t end there. Now that Alabama has passed their “Christian-based” law stating IVF fertilized cells are “babies,” others are drooling at the idea of outlawing any form of birth control.

Let’s say it out loud: Republicans/conservatives know that contraception was a major player in freeing women to enjoy their lives without worry of pregnancy. More women entered the workforce, more women went to college, more women enjoyed financial independence. All three of these ideas go against the conservative ideologies where they want to reduce the power that women have gained. Removing access to abortion and the healthcare options that are needed is the first step and removal of contraception will once again trap women into having children that they didn’t want.
