An Experiment in Right-Wing Authoritarianism

Florida has never really had a good reputation and that reaches back decades when the Mafia made Florida their home as they migrated from New Jersey. Known for a place that is usually 10–12 years behind the times, the state is famous for paying off building inspectors to approve aesthetically appealing homes that are structurally faulty and only exposed when hurricanes hit. However, the bad behavior doesn’t stop there. As a right-to-work state, Florida has one of the worst records for Workman’s Compensation, lists as one of smallest number of weeks for Unemployment Compensation, has huge numbers of people working under the table so employers don’t have to pay any of these fees, and companies get away with bad actions that they would have to suffer from in other states. All of this pales in comparison to the more recent last few years where the governor (known as “DeathSantis”) has gerrymandered districts, shoved bigoted bills to be signed by his assigned sycophants, denied COVID-19 vaccines and masks, supported local candidates whose agenda includes vindictive removal of everyone they don’t like and getting rid of books they don’t approve, and even attacking companies such as Disney because they chose to support their LGBTQ+ employees. Make no mistake, the followers of DeathSantis could care…
