You missed the point — read the article. These new rules are designed to keep the poor and people of color from voting. Look up “Jim Crow”??? Ask WHY the Republicans are pushing these through? Answer: They can’t win without cheating. Try reading the article and researching before you ask such a question.

Here is a recap FROM the article:

The biggest “scream” from the rabid right is the requirement for Voter ID. In some states (such as Florida) Voter ID costs $25 and up, limiting those that are poor from getting a Voter ID. This is comparable to the “poll tax” of the past. For others, getting a Voter ID requires taking time off work and/or traveling long distances.

Removal of ballot drop boxes in neighborhoods of the poor and people of color

Reduced voting hours and days including Sundays (which is popular with Black Americans)

Reduced voter locations for neighborhoods of the poor and people of color so that some have to travel extensive miles to cast their ballot

Restriction of mail-in ballots so that some disallow

Expanded abilities of those that oversee voting so that they can arbitrarily change voting outcome

Allowing third parties designated by the legislature to flag ineligible voters for removal from the rolls and provides funds for election security and post-election recounts based on their decisions.

Drop boxes only available during early voting

Allowing an individual to ONLY drop off two ballots for non-family members

Makes it against the law for anyone to supply food or water to those standing in lines (even if they are standing in lines for hours)

Legislators now have the ability to strip certain powers from the secretary of state that removes that official as the chair of the State Election Board and allowing the General Assembly to choose his/her replacement.

Reducing the application time period to apply for mail-in ballots

Makes it against the law to arbitrarily send out mail-in ballots

Requiring county auditors to follow their specific guidelines for voter purges

Shorter voting hours on election day

Using obscure overrides to disallow any Democrat governors from attempting to stop the voter suppression bills.

Give additional powers to poll watchers to intervene/interfere in the voting process

Prohibit drive-in or drive-up for dropping off ballots

Create strict signature-matching requirements which includes disallowing a ballot if a voter did/didn’t include their middle initial as compared to the original signature.
